It has been more than a month since i last blog. It's Ramadan now. Ninth month of the Islamic calendar. We started fasting on the 11th and it has been a good week so far. i bought those nice almond dates and shared with my muslim friends. one of my close colleague, a non-muslim, is fasting with me. she has been doing this for the past 3-4 years eversince i joined the company and we became lunch buddies. i think it's great. i gave her some dates as well cos i know she would appreciate them, which of course, caused some jealous stares fr some other colleagues. so i shared whatever packs of dates i've left with, with them.

first day of ramadan, Sayang had taken the day off and cooked pasta, ala jawa... yyum my fav. a home cooked meal on the first day of iftar! yippee. it was delish! thanks baby.

trying not to eat too much this days as i have been putting on weight even with the yoga that i've been practising. haiz... so we try to pile on the fruits and veg as much as we can. alhamdulillah for all the food that we have. blessed are we.

alhamdulillah... the weather has been cool. it has been a challenging week but a wonderful one as well. how was yr first week of ramadan?

Rules for my unborn son. i love this site! another "why didn't i think of this" moment when i stumbled upon this site ages ago! it's great not just for my future kids, but also for myself, i supposed. the rules that the author, Walker Lamond, came out with are almost similar to what i would/have/did practice in life yet i've never breathe them out loud... just something i think abt conscious or unconsciously... and he has set them in stone. it's a good read... just tot i share :)

I have such a chaotic house. filled with clutter everywhere yet i would like to think they're chaotic in an organised way. organised chaos.... i wonder if my life is the same? (that would be another story) anywho, i found this blog, Lapsus Humanus via apartment therapy on organising her cutlery drawers. i like how innovative she is. It was a "why didn't i think of that" moment. she used affordable wood strips/ leftovers and stuck them down to her drawer liner. Full story on her site. Kudos to her for figuring it out and sharing with Mis DizOrganised, yours truly :)

Oh don't forget to read about her profile. I like this bit - I enjoy cooking, eating, growing stuff, observing those around me and writing about it - sometimes, I even enjoy my husband.

I had a haircut and highlight yesterday. And i'm loving it! Prior to this, my highlights were blonde streak. It has been almost more than 8 years since i had my hair coloured. The blonde streaks were done cos my regular hairdresser needed a guinea pig to test his skills on. :-) It grew on me after a while. But i did think of doing something different like RED or FUSCHIA or Purple.

So pop down to the hairdresser and i suggested the colours from a peacock feather. A tinge of blue a sprinkle of green. And voila! It came out pretty nice actually. Subtle but nice. Even love my haircut. Dyllis did my hair. Jerome did the colours. My regular hairdresser, Jeffrey, was on MC. Will post some pictures up soon! :)

Remember Super R? Well, she's moved to her new room on the 20th tat day, in a new apartment, new housemates, new place. new beginning. new chapter. blah blah blah...

her sister, Lil Iman was here and was 'couch' crashing for a week. not exactly crashing on the couch. i'm not that evil. she slept in the same room with Super R. i have this triangle futon thingy that i bought from bangkok ages ago and Super R slept on that. but the two of them are so tiny, they could have shared the super single bed. well i wouldn't know...

anyway, you should have seeen the 3 of us lugging Arlia's luggage and stuff into the lift and then to grab a cab on the street. for a wee girl she sure had alot of baggage (LOL!) i mean luggages. i had like 4 plastic bags, 2 small suitcases and a big trolley bag. iman had her haversack, 3 plastic bags, a small trolley bag and Pedro (or was it Pablo?). Super R had a couple of paperbags, haversack, laptop bag and watever else. and we almost caused a traffic jam while getting into the cab!

It has been a lil quiet around here now. nobody smaller than me to pin down during our impromptu wrestling matches. nobody to make AFC ~ Arlia's Fried Chicken. nobody to have coke (the legal kind) with @ 10pm. not much conversations about good looking korean hunks either.

when Super R and Iman were here, we had home cooked dinner. shopping. eating sour lollies. going crazy. doing all the girly stuffs. it was fun having them around. some laughter and noise to fill the air.

anyway, Super R, if you're reading this, you're welcome anytime. hugs and kisses!

it's the new year... again

feeling blessed, alhamdulillah, to be able to celebrate a new year, to live another year with the people you love and who love you. the true matter of fact is that the new year for muslims was on the 18th of december, muharram. so in all actuality, i celebrated new year 13 days earlier than the gregorian calendar (is that right?) so how does that matter? well, it doesn't. just tot i shared.

feeling thankful and blessed. feeling homesick. the new year has brought along strings of emotions, my love for my parents. the awesome sweet memories that i had as a child. the love and affection that they've showered over me. i'm thankful for all that they've provided. and i hope tat my little bits of actions are recognised as signs of gratitude. i love my mom and dad. and i don't say that enough to them. I HEART MOM & DAD.

my dad is not a big fan of displaying affection. my mom, well, yess she do does display, much more than my dad. sometimes when we go out for dinner, and i see my mom holding hands with my dad ~ tat is just sweeet! and i hoped for that when i'm old and wrinkled.

it's funny how you meet someone and suddenly you kind of click. i guess in tis case it has alot to do with the other person – Super R and maybe a dash of me. after all it takes 2 hands to clap and 2 bodies to tango. =.*

Super R is this young (only 24 i tell you! but sometimes berbual macam kakcik-kakcik! hehe jangan mare Super R) bubbly lil thing that has so much energy tat they rub off onto you! she sings. she talks. she tells a lot of stories. she moved here from our KL office on an exchange programme for a year. we work in a retail branding agency. she's a 3D whilst i'm a 2D. No! No! has got nothin to do with bra cup/size in case you're speculating. hehehe. she does the 3 dimensional stuff. i do the 2 dimensional stuff.

she's a storyteller. and each next story is as interesting as the previous one. a photographer. a singer. a drama mama. tomyam fan. a milo freak. and a coke addict (of the legal kind =.P).

oh! and she loves purple. purple purply plum.

Super R is currently a tenant in my apartment. she's renting the small room till her room is available in dec. so imagine 2 girls giggling over the stupidest of things while ghooseman watches over his laptop, thinking what had he gotten himself into! tune in for more stories on Super R.

boy oh boy...
can you believe it! it has almost been a year since i last had an entry. gosh! how time flies! eyes wide shut eyes wide open (kejam celik kejam celik) it is almost 2010. seriously! how time flies!

it has been quite an eventful year. good things and bad things. the good we are thankful for... syukur alhamdulillah. and the bad we shall learn from.

today we celebrated the birth of Muhammad Aqil... son to Maria and Tahir and the lil brother to Abang Afzal. standing at the height of 480mm and weighing 291 grams, he's such a beauty! i mean, isn't all babies are!? fair smooth skin. (can easily make BIG mony modelling for johnsons & johnsons) tiny nose. small fingers. and pinky toes. beooootiful. mom and bub are well alhamdulillah. though i had a lil scare when i heard tht the doc did an emergency C-section cos lil Aqil decided to move his head to the right (instead of centre towards the light at the end of that tunnel). i am so lucky to have so many kids! to date i'm the proud aunt of 3 nieces and 4 nephews (and one more babu on the way! shhh! u didn't hear it from me.)

And how many kids of my own do i have?
none actually! zilch! nana! geeloow!! anak tekak adalah.
why? i guess God has other plans for me now and the rezki (to have kids) has yet to fall on my lap. i can only plan. only God can make it happen. until that happens... i'm enjoying life carpe diem (i'm not complaining) – the freedom to travel, doing the things i love to do, sleeping late and waking up later. Am i ready to have kids? yup. mentally. emotionally ever ready. even if it means waking up more during the nite, sleeping lesser. sleepness nites. travelling lesser. hair, pun lesser.

until then let's make a toast to life... so if you are reading this and the next time you bump into me on the street, please don't ask me: "when are you gonna have kids?" "how many kids dah?" cos i don't know. seriously don't know. unless you are BFF with God, maybe you can ask God to make it happen for me and tat will save you the trouble of asking me again the next time you see me. =.)

They have classes in English as well as Malay.
Classes are held at opposite Masjid Kassim at
Saleem Chishty, 455A Upper Changi Road.

Islam has 5 letters - These represent the 5 pillars namely the Shahadah,Prayers,Fast,Zakaat & Hajj.
Islam has 5 letters - These can represent the 5 daily prayers
Islam has 5 letters - There were 5 great Prophets namely Noah,Ibrahim, Musa,Isa and Muhammad s.a.w.
The alphabets in Islam start with "I" which in arabic looks like Alif which is actually the beginning of Allah's name.
The alphabets in Islam end with "m" which actaully symbolises the completeness of Islam with our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Hence Islam started with Allah and was complete with our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.thus all Muslims are encouraged to follow only the Quran and the sunnah of our prophet s.a.w.
Each of the alphabets in Islam stand for a prophet - I for Isa a.s., S for Shuiib or Solomon a.s., L for Lut a.s., A for Adam a.s. and M for Musa a.s. or Muhammad a.s.
In the word Islam you will find, Alif (I), Lam(L) and Miim(M) which is in surah Al-Baqarah which is actually a secret that no one knows except Allah s.w.t. Thus Islam too is a secret only to be discovered by some and hence you can see many Muslims behaving in a unIslamic way which is consistent with this secret not being revealed to them.
Islam is for thinking people, people with IQ and the knowledge is from "Q", our holy Quran. Thus all other knowledge cannot match the knowledge in the holy Quran and yet many people are still not reading the Quran.
Islam starts with you (I) and extend out to "M", the mankind. Thus we hear hablum minallah which is the relationship between you and Allah and hablum minanas, the relationship between you and mankind.

i am soooooo addicted to facebook. and so are most of the people i met. after the "hello"s and "how are you"s the next question is : ARE YOU ON FACEBOOK?

i'm one of those people who spent hours in front of the computer poking her friends and colleagues instead of calling them to say hello!!! what have i become??!!! before it was friendster. but the addiction wasn't so bad cos friendster doesn't have any cool applications like super poke your friends, send cool gifts or race cars. With all this cool apps in facebook, i just can't stop adding apps to my profile. and people just can't stop inviting you to add the apps to your profile. the world has just become smaller.

i'm not really sure what is it that really attracted me to the movie. Is it the emotionally touching songs? (well it's not your celine dion puking love songs.) is it the haunting voice of Marketa Irglova? is it the simplicity of the storyline and cinematography? whatever it is, whatever it may be, Once has strike a chord, a vein in my blood stream. i'll recommend it to the hopelessly romantic. BUT it's no titanic... just try not to have any expectations.

i had a blast in australia. first stop was melbourne.

surprised me mom on the second day of Hari Raya. she was there already, taking care of my pregnant sis. she had no idea tat i was coming cos i told her tat all flights were fully booked and the available tix was too expensive. well it was twice the normal price.

the morning of my arrival, Nazif (BIL) told mom that he was going to the supermarket. mom was a bit surprised that he was up pretty early on a sunday morning (8am). usually they'll be lazing in bed till noon (ok.. that was an exaggeration) marian was up and showered which made it even more suspicious.

when i reached my sis' home, nazif walked in first and i came in like half a min later. Boy, was she surprised!!! we hug. she cried. she made me wanna cry. we hugged some more. seeing me probably make her missed home even more...(i think) raya in melbourne is not the same as in singapore. esp when your entire family is not there wit you... :)

it was an overwhelming morning for all....
meeting my sis and brother-in-law after such a long time and getting to see my new nephew. he's so adorably small... tiny hands. tiny wrinkly fingers. tiny wrinkly toes. alhamdullillah! both mother and child are well...

with a phone number attached... i chanced upon it while
waiting for a bus in front of Tangs shopping centre.
looking closer, it was a poster of a missing person.

hardly a poster for a missin person. nicely sealed in plastic
to protect from the weather...rain or shine...it served it's purpose.

curious, i read on. Felicia aka Gaia has been missing
since 30th June 2007. a student of La Salle.
Pretty young chinese gal who can speak fluent malay.

We started off this month with The Bowling Tournament
I would like to thank the organisers for making this happened.
And to my fellow bowlers, thank you for being there.
There will be no bowling without you guys.
Even with the lowest score, it was a stellar nite...
memories of the unique bowling styles will be remembered
for a long time (till the next tournament!).
We should have this more often! Spectacular performances!

Look wat i got!!! Surplise from my baby!! i totally didn't expect ghoose to get me anything. i'd actually wanted to get one myself, i had asked him to check out the cameras when he had the time. but look wat he got me!!!! i'm on the moon! and it was a full moon last nite!

he went out to get some McDees yesterday - we couldn't think of wat to eat. i finally decided on mcnuggets and fish fillet. he offered to go and get them. It should take him the most about 20 mins to get the food and come home. the nearest McD was about 5 mins on his bike. i got pretty worried after 40mins. i called his mobile but he'd left it at home (was that on purpose?). i went to the window to see if his bike was parked. nope it wasn't there.

then i started to think of the craziest thing - did he get into an accident just around the corner near the bus stop. That road is crazy sometimes! You get gigantic container truck whizzing at high speed down that small 2 lane road. but i couldn't hear any ambulance siren nor was there a hold up down the street.

Finally, after about 2 hours, I saw him cruising down the road. Sigh of relieve! He came in with the Mcdees... and an Olympus paper bag! I was oredi waiting for him at the door. Usually, i would be in the bedroom or behind the door, waiting to surprise him. But not today...cos i was anxious. not because of the blue olympus bag...but where the hell was my McNuggets!!! He saw me and grinned and tried to hide the GIGANTUM blue bag from my view. Too late! i saw it. i was grinning from ear to ear!!!

wonder why people are intrigued with all things weird.
i'm a weirdo anyway. Ghoose, i cut and paste yr rules! Sorry! :)

Weird 1. I sleep with a minimum of 3 pillows.
One under my head. One for me to peluk (hug). One on my other side. Most of the time, ghoose is my bantal peluk bushuk. So the third pillow will be on my shoulder when i sleep on my side hugging my ghoose bantal peluk bushuk. On the event of unavailability of pillows, one would suffice. (Only under extreme circumstances. Cos then i'll wake up all grumpy and grouchy! Kidding!)

Weird 2. I can drink coffee at nite and still go to sleep.
Which is pretty weird. Caffeine does it job in the day when i need to stay awake as well. So at nite, it's like a substitute to hot milk :P

Weird 3. I'm the only one in my immediate family who has myopia.
Or short sightedness. Right now it's 375 on the right and 350 on the left. Now that my parents are older, they have hyperopia - long sightedness. So i guess, when i'm old, i'll have both. then i'll start wearing magnifying glass cum binoculars... heheh watever bifying glasses...

Weird 4. While ghoose sheds water easily, i'm the extreme opposite of him.
Don't get me wrong, i do perspire when i walk to the bus stop to go to work, exercise etc. I just have dry skin. Experience internal heatiness frequently. Not drinking enough water? I don't think so cos i pee a lot. ok too much information...

Weird 5. I'm Panda's long lost cousin!
I perpertually have panda eyes, dark circles. No cream or gel or teabags can cure it!!!! It doesn't help tat my skin is fair. It's so bad that i think people think ghoose gave me a jab in the eye.

Weird 6. My name is weird. Sentiasa Manja...
There's nobody that i know who's real name is Manja. Well, not in singapore. It was weird growing up wit that name. Even my parents don't call me by Manja. I got made fun of sometimes. But now i've learn to embrace it. It's kinda cool sweet saccharine...

There you go! 6 weird things about yrs truly. I kinda got stuck at 6th actually. Right now, i'm still fishing for my victims.

we've decided!
we've decided to sell off the car. our weekend car.
why wkd car? neither i nor ghoose drives to work.
work for me is just a 10 mins bus ride.
work for ghoose is just 15mins walk.
so we usually take our bat mobile for a ride in the evenings
or weekends. sometimes the bat mobile does not even get
a walk for a whole week. we are so comfortable at home,
especially now with the weather so cool (so shiok),
we just bundle up at home. watch the telly. read a book.
indulge in afternoon naps.

the world is a safer place with us at home...
the world does not need to be saved...
the bat mobile becomes redundant...

then ghoose decided - let's sell off the bike!
so there we were. from one bike. to one bike and a car.
to three bikes and a car!!!! to none!
oh! we kept a bike! oh yes we did!
ghoose's ktm for his trail. his man-toy.

we spent the wkd travelling in the bus. the train.
the most fun i've ever heard. reminiscence of our dating days.
not tat we took a lot of the public transport back then.
ghoose had his awie bike. his faithful awie bike with three boxes
two on the sides. one at the back. to fit your 6mths worth of groceries! man and his boxes :P

but it was quite tiring... travelling through and fro with public transport. it was easier getting around on the bike...on a good day, when it doesn't rain. the money spent on public transport for 1 week = petrol for ghoose's bike for 2 weeks. we did the math. we can't live without a bike...at least.

Based on a novel by John Le Carre.

The movie was directed by Fernando Meirelles.
An intelligent and moving political thriller.
A thriller that is moving, scary and down right
forthright in it's views of big companies gone wrong
and the horrors that they are willing to inflect
on others for the sake of profit.

Starring Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes.
Rachel Weisz is strong willed and obsessive
and Fiennes is determine and endearing
and both of them compliment each other
with their winning chemistry and acting chops.
The director compliments both of them
with a view of Africa that is rarely seen in film
and a sense of reality that is only found in real life.

While Gardener really wants to come off as daring
and politically aware, at its heart it's a mystery
and love story, and it succeeds on both of those counts.
If you come out of the movie concerned about the way
drug companies exploit Africans, that's a nice bonus,
but you're just as likely to come out touched by
Justin's (Ralph Fiennes) love for Tessa (Rachel Weisz),
or caught up in the excitement of the story.
And there's nothing wrong with that.

It's not just the movie that evokes your emotions.
Along with it's fine soundtracks and chilling African chants
especially one by Ayub Ogada for the track Kothbiro.
I've no idea what the song means. Nor can i decipher the lyrics.
But the tune is so alien yet mesmerizing. The sadness in the tunes,
strength in the voice, with the backdrop of the movie evokes
such strong emotions in me...Strangely soothing yet sad
the song, that is.
